TentBox Roof-Bar Spacing and Rack Fit

TentBox publishes different front-to-back spacing ranges for its models. Measure the bars on the vehicle and compare them with the instructions for the exact TentBox model. A spacing match alone does not establish that the vehicle or rack is approved for the tent.

Compare TentBox’s model ranges

TentBox model Recommended distance between crossbars
GO 70–120 cm
Lite 50–100 cm
Lite XL 70–120 cm
Classic 70–120 cm
Cargo 70–120 cm

TentBox says a few centimetres beyond either end of a listed range may be acceptable and recommends positioning the tent centrally over the bars. Confirm the current model instructions before relying on that tolerance.

Horizontal scale comparing TentBox recommended bar spacing: Lite is 50–100 cm; GO, Lite XL, Classic, and Cargo are each 70–120 cm.

Check the standard clamp interface

TentBox’s standard clamp system is designed for two crossbars that run side to side. Each bar must be 2–8.5 cm wide. The tent’s fixing rails are 60 cm apart, and the mounting bolts need clear gaps in the rack slats so they can pass through. Measure the installed system and check the bolt path; a rack that looks wide enough may still block the hardware.

If using a roof rack with slats instead of crossbars, TentBox says the standard system requires side-to-side slats within that width range, with gaps aligned to the fixing rails. Ask the rack maker about a tent adapter when those conditions do not match; do not improvise a clamp or drill the tent. Raised rack edges may interfere with the ladder, and the Lite needs an unobstructed hinge area to fold out and lock.

Verify the complete setup

Use vehicle-authorised, adequately rated bars and the current instructions for the selected model. Check the vehicle, rack, and tent limits separately, plus clearance for the ladder and tent opening. TentBox’s user guidance calls for securing the closed tent before travel, checking the installation before every journey and every 100 miles, and retightening the bars after their first significant load. These are TentBox instructions and do not replace stricter requirements from the vehicle or rack maker.
