2026 Subaru Forester Crossbars: Choose by Roof Rails and Trim
The 2026 Subaru Forester accessory brochure lists different crossbar sets for different trims and roof-rail styles. Start by confirming both on the vehicle. A trim name alone does not establish that a particular accessory fits every package, and these US accessory listings are not a fit result for another model year or market.
Match the listed set to the vehicle
The 2026 US brochure identifies these options:
| Set | Brochure application | Roof-tent statement |
|---|---|---|
| Subaru Crossbar Set – Aero, SOA843X045 | Base, Premium, and Limited; ladder-style roof rails | Does not support rooftop tents |
| Subaru Crossbar Set – Aero, SOA843X048 | Sport and Touring; low-profile roof rails | Does not support rooftop tents |
| Thule Crossbar Set – Aero Extended, SOA567X010 | Base, Premium, and Limited | Described as suitable for roof-tent use, subject to the vehicle’s total roof-load limit |
| Thule Crossbar Set – Aero Extended, SOA567X091 | Sport and Touring; the Subaru kit instructions describe the 2025-on low-profile-rail application | Described as suitable for roof-tent use, subject to the vehicle’s total roof-load limit |
| Thule Crossbar Set – Aero Extended, SOA567X070 | Forester Wilderness only; black set | The brochure describes Aero Extended as suitable for roof-tent use, but the exact vehicle and tent instructions still govern |
These are the brochure’s named accessory applications, not a complete package-by-package fitment matrix. Check the actual rails and the latest Subaru application for the vehicle identification before ordering. If the installed rail style or part number does not match the instructions, ask a Subaru parts department or qualified rack fitter to confirm the correct system.
Know what each limit means
The SOA843X045 installation sheet says its maximum-load requirement is marked on the underside of the front bar and identifies 150 lb for that crossbar set. That is a product marking, not the Forester’s total roof-load allowance. The instructions for kit SOA567X091 list a maximum of 75 kg (165 lb) evenly distributed on its crossbars. Do not treat those two figures as interchangeable or apply either to another set.
Before loading, read the exact vehicle owner’s manual along with the rack and carrier instructions. Check whether each stated figure includes the rack and accessory weight, then stay within the lowest applicable limit. A brochure statement that a set is suitable for tent use does not approve a particular tent, occupant load, or parked setup. Confirm the tent’s required bar count, spacing, attachment method, and vehicle limit separately.
Install and place the bars as instructed
For the SOA843X045 adjustable set, Subaru designates separate front and rear attachment areas; each bar is made for its own area. The installation sheet specifies tightening the top bolts to 8 Nm ± 0.5 Nm with the supplied T30 tool, then checking that each bar grips the rail firmly by trying to move it at the attachment points. Use the current sheet for the complete sequence and diagrams. Do not transfer this torque or procedure to a different crossbar kit.
The same instructions give a noise-reduction position for an unloaded bar when the sunroof is tilted: place the front bar as far rearward on the side rails as possible. That note is not a loaded accessory placement rule. When carrying equipment, use the placement and spacing in the instructions for that specific Subaru attachment or carrier.
The SOA567X091 kit sheet identifies its components as a Thule Flush Rail Evo footpack, vehicle-specific fit kit 186174, WingBar Evo crossbars, four lock cylinders, two keys, and an installation tool. It says to use the Subaru kit sheets for this installation rather than the instructions packaged with the Thule boxes. Confirm the vehicle application and follow the current kit sheet from beginning to end.
Before carrying gear
- Confirm model year, trim, market, and whether the Forester has ladder-style or low-profile rails.
- Match the accessory part number to the current Subaru application and instructions.
- Check the vehicle’s total roof limit and the rack and accessory limits, including how each defines loaded weight.
- Verify the carrier’s bar interface, required spread, clearance, and any tent-specific restrictions.
- Recheck each attachment and secure the load as directed by the relevant instructions. If any part identity or fit condition is unresolved, do not load the rack until Subaru or the rack maker confirms it.
For the broader vehicle-to-rack parts path, see roof types and base-rack components. Use the crossbar geometry guide to compare a carrier with the installed bars. The Crosstrek guide shows why Subaru crossbar options still need exact year, roof, and trim checks.
