Which Thule T-Track Adapter Fits My Roof-Box Model?

Start with the exact model name on your Thule roof box, then use the manufacturer’s compatibility matrix to identify adapter options it lists. A positive matrix entry is one part of the answer: it does not confirm that the adapter matches your box’s production generation, the bar’s track, your market, or your vehicle.

The Thule Cargo box accessory compatibility matrix (PDF) has three pages and a footer date of 09/12/25. It marks four adapter columns—696-4, 696-6, 697-4, and 697-6—against roof-box models. The lookup below names every roof-box row with a positive mark in at least one of those columns, grouped by the marked adapter pair. A positive cell is not a complete fitment result.

Read the model row

Find the model label on the box itself, its original paperwork, or a product label. Do not choose by approximate size or by the broad “Thule roof box” name. A model family can include different generations and retained mounting hardware.

The groups summarize positive cells in Thule’s matrix; they do not mean every adapter is interchangeable. The matrix also contains four Ocean rows without a positive mark in these columns. An unmarked cell is not a universal “does not fit” result, and a box omitted from this summary should be checked against current Thule information.

Match the adapter to the bar and the box

The adapter number alone is not enough. Thule’s UK product pages describe 696-4 and 696-6 for a 24 mm T-track, while 697-4 and 697-6 are for a 20 mm T-track. Measure or identify the installed bar from its manufacturer documentation; do not assume that two slots with similar names or shapes have the same usable dimensions.

The pages also describe different box-side mounting relationships. The 696-4 and 697-4 pages identify Fast-Grip and Power-Grip replacement paths and name Touring and Pacific families. The 696-6 and 697-6 pages identify Power-Click replacement and list selected box families. Those product-page lists do not name every model that has a positive matrix entry. In particular, the matrix lists Vector, Motion 3, Force 3, and Pulse 2 rows for the 696-6/697-6 columns, while the UK product pages inspected here do not list those names. That difference remains unresolved at the exact generation level; confirm the box’s retained mount and current instructions with Thule before buying.

A separate Thule instruction document groups adapters by older box mounting systems and shows adapter-specific hardware dimensions. Its publication date and model-year coverage are not established, and its family groupings do not reconcile every current matrix and product-page difference. Treat it as an instruction for the specific parts and box configuration it depicts, not a universal generation key.

Check your market and complete installation

The matrix is not a market-specific vehicle fit guide. Thule has separate regional product pages: the inspected UK, Canadian, and US pages for 697-6 identify a 20 mm T-track and Power-Click replacement, but they do not all provide the same box-family list. A UK listing does not prove Canadian or US approval for a particular box generation. Check the current product number, availability, and installation instructions for the country where the setup will be used.

Before installation, verify all of the following against current manufacturer instructions:

• The exact box model and generation, plus the mounting hardware actually fitted to it.
• The adapter part number and any parts that must be removed, retained, or purchased separately.
• The installed bar model and track dimensions, including the correct adapter path for that track.
• Vehicle-specific base-rack approval, roof configuration, and required bar placement.
• Box, bar, rack, and vehicle clearance and every applicable load limit.
• Current instructions for the exact box, adapter, bar, and vehicle combination.

A box-to-adapter matrix entry does not establish the vehicle’s roof capacity or the safe load for the complete setup. Use the lowest applicable limit from the vehicle, base rack, box, and cargo instructions, accounting for the weight of the equipment as required by those instructions. When the lookup does not settle it

Stop and ask Thule or an authorized fitter when the box label is missing, the generation is uncertain, the matrix row is absent or unclear, the listed adapter does not match the bar track, or current product information conflicts with an older instruction. Provide photos of the box label and existing mount, the bar model and track, your country, and vehicle year, make, model, trim, and roof configuration. Ask for confirmation of the complete combination, not just whether an adapter part number exists.
